Block printing work shop

What’s on in May

We’re here to let you know what’s on this month at the Canvas Café. You can expect an exciting craft evening, a community repair café, and half term activities for the kids, including a children’s sushi making workshop!

Wednesday 1st May – Chinwag Wednesday: Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

We had a fabulous evening for our second chinwag with Valerie Sheldon Fowler. Valerie shared her wealth of knowledge on aromatherapy and essential oils. Thank you Valerie and everyone who came along for the evening, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did

Our next chinwag will be with Beth from Refill Revolution on Wednesday 5th June. Keep your eye on our events page for more details and the link to book your spot.

Thursday 16th May – Canvas Café Craft Evening: Indian Block Printing Workshop

This month’s Canvas Café Craft Evening will be an Indian block printing workshop led by Caroline Creates.

You will be able to create your own unique hand printed drawstring or tote bag, using blocks handmade by a Fairtrade project in Jaipur! This is a fun workshop and no experience is necessary.

You’ll be shown the basics of block printing, as well as some different techniques to help you create your own design. There will be practice fabric for you to use, so that you can have a few test runs, before you get going on your bag! There will be a wide range of blocks and colours to choose from, and there will also be some examples on show to help spark your creativity!

A welcome drink and nibbles during the workshop will also be included.

Tickets can be booked here.

Sunday 19th May, 3-6pm – Repair Café – repair not replace

We care about saving items from landfill and love helping people live a more sustainable and money-savvy life, that’s why we will be hosting Market Harborough’s very first repair café! You can save your broken items from landfill by bringing them along on Sunday 19th May for our community fixers to have a look at, and hopefully fix!

Community members will be on hand to repair most things, from clothing and general bits and bobs, through to electrical items, for free!

If you’d like to chat about any repairs you have in mind ahead of the event, feel free to ask.

Drinks and food will be available to purchase in the cafe during the event so that you can relax and chat with the like-minded people you meet.

May Half Term

We know that half term can be a busy time for those of you with little ones, and with all the bank holidays and school breaks of the past few weeks, we can imagine you may have exhausted all of your day-out options. Don’t fear, we’re here with some half-term activities that we can almost guarantee you won’t have tried yet!

Monday 27th May 11am – 12:15am – Children’s sushi making workshop with Yuko from Omotenashi Dining Half term activities

Yuko will be hosting a fabulous ‘hands-on’ sushi making workshop for children and an accompanying adult. The children will learn essential skills and tricks, which will allow them to make delicious sushi at home!

The children will be able to create 2 types of Hoso maki (small rolls), 1 Uramaki (inside out roll), and some decorative sushi balls. We will then plate up the sushi and have a little taster, the rest is yours for you to take home and enjoy! To accompany your sushi, Yuko will be serving creamy sesame sauce broccoli as a side dish.

£18 per child. More information can be found on the booking page, going live on our events page soon.

Date TBC – kids yoga session

We will be announcing the date later this month, for a kids yoga session, so keep your eyes peeled for the details of this!
