In January we were put forward for a Citi Micro-entrepreneurship award, in the environmental sustainability category. Outlined in our previous post. The category focused on people who have created successful small scale businesses with positive impacts on the environment. Country Bumpkin Yurts were considered among a selection of wonderful, inspiring small businesses, who strive to positively impact the environment in their own unique way.
So, what are the Citi Micro-entrepreneurship Awards?
“The Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards are a celebration of the enterprises and local businesses…” said Bob Annibale, Global Director, Citi Inclusive Finance and Community Development.“The year’s awards align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals agenda. The shortlisted businesses all contribute to economic growth and the social and environmental vibrancy of their communities.”
So we travelled to Liverpool for the event, and reveal of category winners. We had a great evening at the awards, and found the fascinating stories of each small business partiularly inspiring. The awards, hosted by Responsible Finance and the Citi Foundation, focused heavily on celebrating the achievements of small businesses in the UK. Something that we believe is definitely worthy of recognition and celebration!
The ceremony started in style with a glass of bubbles. Followed by the chance to meet and mingle with people from all of the wonderful businesses nominated. We were then treated to a fab 3 
course dinner before the awards got started. Rather a lovely experience being on the other side of the hospitality table, we were truly spoilt by everyone at the event. A number of winners from a range of categories were then announced.
As part of the nomination process, we had a video made of our business. During the evening we got the chance to watch our video. As well as the videos for each of the other businesses. Our video was brilliant. We were thrilled with it. The video featured a view of the Canvas Café and yurts. And, an interview with us. In the interview we answered questions on why we started Country Bumpkin Yurts, why we are focused on looking after the planet, and how we’re championing sustainability.
It was great to meet other small businesses striving towards sustainability!
Moreover it was very inspiring to learn more about the people behind some great small businesses from around the UK. As always, it’s a delight to see a growth in the awareness and popularity of environmental considerations and sustainability. It’s great to see more and more new businesses start with eco concerns as a focus. Without doubt each of the businesses in our category is doing something to look after our planet. What’s more, we’ve returned with lots of exciting ideas for the Canvas Café and our yurts.
Unfortunately we didn’t win our category but we were up against some brilliant, deserving businesses. We are really proud to have been nominated and to have been finalists. As you know, we are passionate about the environment and sustainability. Sustainability is at the forefront of all of our decisions and plans. It is great to be recognised for this.
