What’s happening at the Canvas Café in April
We’re here to let you know what’s going on this month. You can expect an educational discussion, crafty workshop and an abundance of Easter half term activities.
Wednesday 3rdApril – Chinwag Wednesday: Chemical Farming to organic obsessive.
This month ‘Chinwag Wednesday’ got off to a flying start with a supper cooked by us and a talk from Waterloo Cottage Farm’s Angus Clarke. Everyone loved the evening, enjoyed the food and thought the chat was really interesting & informative. What a great way to start our chinwag nights!
Angus talked about the benefits of eating pasture-fed, antibiotic-free meat and shared how he went from chemical farming to being an organic obsessive! He answered many of our questions around exactly what switching to pasture-fed, antibiotic-free meat can do for your health.
We served our delicious homemade beef burgers (using Waterloo Cottage Farm mince, of course) topped with onion chutney and a choice of cheddar or stilton, served in a manchette roll with sautéed new potatoes.
We also served nibbles, sweets & coffee, and our guests brought their own bottles of alcohol to enjoy.
Thursday 18thApril – Soy Wax Candle Making with Candle Luci
Thursday 18th April will be our first Canvas Café Craft Evening starting with a soy wax candle making session with Candle Luci.
You will have the opportunity to make and take home your very own sweet smelling soy wax candle!
The evening will start with a little about the history of candles. Amy from candle Luci will then take you through the process of making the candles from melting the wax, to infusing with scent, and setting your very own candle.
We will provide a welcome drink and nibbles for you to enjoy throughout the workshop.
Tickets cost £25 per person. The event will soon be live on our website so keep your eyes peeled for it to book your tickets.
Easter Half Term
Throughout Easter from Monday 8thApril.
We just love spring, the Canvas Café is surrounded by beautiful bright daffodils, the fields are full of tiny lambs and the sun is (mostly) shining! This year we’ve decided to celebrate with a number of Easter half term activities to keep the kids entertained while they’re off.
We will also be serving special Easter hot chocolate toppings and freshly baked Hambleton’s hot cross buns available throughout Easter. You will be able to choose either mini eggs or crème eggs to complement our delicious hot chocolates made from pure chocolate supplied by our lovely local supplier Explore Chocolate.
Every Thursday (11th, 18thand 25th) you can get a free kids lunch box containing half a sandwich, crisps, carrot and cucumber sticks with homemade hummus, and a glass of squash with every adult meal and hot drink purchased.
Pom pom chick making
We’re experimenting with pom pom chick making and will be putting together some chick making kits available for purchase in the café. The kits will keep the kids entertained, while you enjoy a coffee, and of course supervise! The bright, fuzzy pom pom chicks also make a great homemade Easter gift for any friend, parent or grandparent. If your little ones can bear to part with them, that is.
Saturday 20thApril – Easter Egg Decorating competition
This one isn’t just for kids. We will be judging an Easter egg decorating competition with three age categories with an Explore Chocolate Easter Eggs and a Hamper up for grabs.
- Under 10
- 10 – 16

All you need to do to enter is hard boil and decorate your own egg at home, then bring them in for judging at midday on Saturday 20thApril. The winner will then be announced at 2pm. The children’s categories will win an Explore Chocolate easter egg and the adult winner will receive a hamper filled with Waterloo Cottage Farm Meat, veg from Pearmans farm and a voucher for the
