The woodburning hot tub is proving very popular at Country Bumpkin Yurts.
Our guests have said having a hot tub on site is one of the key criteria in their glamping holiday search. And quite right, glamping with a hot tub is worth holding out for. It’s divine. It makes glamping that bit more glamorous, yet still feels authentically natural. Who wouldn’t want that?
Our eco tub
Here at Country Bumpkin Yurts, we have a woodburning hot tub. We chose this because it is eco-friendly and more fun. The beauty of the wood and the crackling sound of the fire whilst you relax in the hot water gives the experience a more natural feel. We love for people to reconnect with themselves and with nature when they stay in our yurts – relaxing in a wood burning hot tub in the outdoors is a great way to do this. It’s so wonderfully peaceful.
A woodburning hot tub heats using fire instead of electricity, making it carbon neutral. Because of the fire building, you are actively involved in the hot tub preparation process which makes the relaxing afterwards even more rewarding. It takes about 3 hours to heat to 35-40 degrees Celsius. Unless it is the heart of winter, in which case it takes more like 5-6 hours. And it keeps its heat for hours. If you put the lid back on after using it, the water can stay hot until the following day! Guests have been enjoying a soak in the tub on the hot evenings and whilst being surrounded by snow. It’s fun in any climate.
Here’s a reminder of how to get the hot tub ready:
It’s easiest to build an ‘upside down fire’. (FYI, we provide all the wood you need).
- Start with bigger bits of wood at the bottom of the metal firebox. Build it a few layers high.
- Then add a layer of smaller wood, then kindling.
- Place firelighters on the top and light them. We then add a few more bits of kindling onto the firelighters.
- Keep adding logs to the fire as it burns down. Around every 45 mins.
- Stir the water regularly to distribute the heat.
- Keep an eye on the temperature – stop adding to the fire once it is hot enough for you.
- Time to get in and unwind.
- For more detail view our video.
The hot tub has been popular with guests of all ages. Our tub can fit up to 8 people but 6 or less is best if you want more space. You’d have to know everyone VERY well if there was 8 of you in there, or at least be prepared to know them well by the end. For the children, we suggest not heating it too more and let them splash about before you use it later. You can then add more logs afterwards to heat it to the right temperature for yourselves. It will then be ready when you get in with a glass of bubbly once the kids are in bed.
Going glamping and enjoying a woodburning hot tub is a great way to relax, unwind and reconnect with nature. An alternative holiday in yurts in the heart of the countryside is as adventurous as it is glamorous; that is why we love it! And we think you will too.
