Starting a new business from scratch is hard work – but hard work that is rewarding.
We have had some fantastic times setting up Country Bumpkin Yurts. The launch of our FREE weekend competition feels like a key shift in our development; we are moving from preparation to launching and running. As we reach this benchmark I am inspired to reflect on what we have achieved so far. Here are out Top 5 moments…
1 – The Jackpot Idea Over A Cup of Tea
We will never forget that great feeling when the idea for glamping and a yurt café emerged from our conversation over a cup of tea at The Langton Green House Café. We instantly became excited and looked at each other and said “shall we do this?” “Yes, let’s do it!”. The sudden sense of purpose and passion as we connected over the dream was a wonderful feeling. Literally the 1st moment for the Top 5.
2 – Planning Permission
It’s not all been fun and games getting Country Bumpkin Yurts off the ground. The application for planning permission was a lengthy and not entirely smooth process but in July 2016 we were approved! Without this, progress would have stalled completely. A glass of bubbly was well justified that day!
3 – Funding
Country Bumpkin Yurts was never going to be a cheap venture. We needed the right capital investment at the right time. This partly came through the organisation First Enterprise. Lara and I applied and were invited to sit in front of a panel to discuss our business. This was one of the most nerve-racking experiences of my life! Lara and I had to ‘hug it out’ afterwards to calm our nerves. We must have done OK because later that day Lara received a phone call to say that our funding had been approved!
4 – Ordering the Yurts
We officially placed the order for our 3 beautiful yurts from Yurt Maker on 14th February. What a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! This means our launch countdown can finally begin.
5 – Competition Time
With the yurts being crafted as we speak, it is time to start shouting about Country Bumpkin Yurts. And, of course, to get the bookings in the diary. We will announce the winner during our launch party.
