Walking & Glamping; top walks from Country Bumpkin Yurts

A country stroll is a perfect activity for your glamping holiday.

Going for a good walk is relaxing, beautiful, and suitable for anyone – kids and adults alike. Walking and glamping go hand in hand. Based in the heart of the East Midlands, our glamping site is perfectly placed along several public footpaths. Within a few steps of Country Bumpkin Yurts, you’ll cross 4 major walking routes. The Brampton Valley Way, The Jurassic Way, The Macmillan Way, and The Midshires Way. Talk about spoilt for choice! When visiting the area or staying with us, take the opportunity to explore nature and breathe in the fresh air. Here are our top 2 walks on the doorstep of your yurt.

The Brampton Valley Way to Market Harborough

The Brampton Valley Way connects Market Harborough and Northampton via a high-quality and easy access traffic-free path through the countryside. The route follows one of the longest dismantled railway paths in the country and was opened for recreational use in 1993. Just 2 miles from Market Harborough, it runs along the back of Country Bumpkin Yurts. The wonderfully spooky Great Oxendon Tunnels are just by us too.

Our number 1 recommended walk is to go via this bridleway into Market Harborough (about 3 miles – 6 if you walk back too). You will love the peace and quiet as you stroll along the path with the fields and streams spanning out on either side. You can access The Brampton Valley Way via a gate at the back of Country Bumpkin Yurts. At certain times of the year, like right now, we recommend accessing the bridleway via a different way as there are there are highland cows with calves in the field with the gate in. This alternative route is found by going back out of Waterloo Cottage Farm, onto the main road. Turn left and walk along the footpath and keep an eye out for a public footpath sign which will take you left. If you get to The George, you’ve gone too far. Follow the footpath sign through the field and over the styles and you’ll soon be on the Brampton Valley Way. You’ll come out next to the gate by the yurts.

Follow the bridleway until you get to Scotland Road. This section is about 2 miles so will take you about an hour, depending on how fast you walk. Cross the road and go through Little Bowden Recreation Ground. There is a play park here, so it’s a nice place to stop for a while if you have children with you. From the park, follow the signs to the town centre. Once in the town centre, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and delightful independent shops to mooch around. Once rested, fed and ready, go back to your yurt via the same route in reverse.

The Jurassic Way to Braybrooke

Our number 2 recommended walk when glamping with us is to visit the village of Braybrooke via the footpath where The Jurassic Way, Macmillan Way and Midshires Way all meet. For this walk, you’ll need to start heading towards The Brampton Valley Way. When you come over the style or through the gate onto the small path, turn right to go over the tunnel and cross the bridleway to get onto the footpath. If you follow this path through the beautiful fields it will take you to Braybrooke. When you get to a T junction on the footpath, turn left.

If you’d like to stop off in Braybrooke for a drink or lunch, follow this path and it will turn in to a track, then a road. At the end of the road (a T junction on a bend), turn right and follow the road. You’ll soon come across The Swan pub. This is a brilliant place for food!

Once done, head back to the footpath you came from, heading down the road that will turn into a track, then into a footpath. This time, when you see the footpath signs, take the right-hand path. This will take you through some lovely big fields, across a little stream, then onto The Brampton Valley Way. When you get onto The Brampton Valley Way, turn left and walk towards the tunnels and back to your yurt.

After either of these walks, you’ll be ready for a soak in the glorious wood-burning hot tub at Country Bumpkin Yurts. Walking and exploring nature is the ideal activity during a glamping holiday. There are so many options and routes near us that you can step in any direction and follow a public footpath through the wonderful countryside. Having The Brampton Valley Way on the doorstep is simply perfect. Your cosy yurt will make the best base for an adventure, and the hot tub and BBQ will be waiting for you when you get back.
