Yurt Glamping and Canvas Café – 2019, a year in review

Yurt Glamping and Canvas Cafe

2019 – what a year!

It was a year filled with yurts and a whole lot of food. Our yurt glamping guests enjoyed the farm life and fully embraced the British rain (it was an unusually wet year). We saw hen parties celebrating in true country chic style. We cooked more Eggs Benedict than we’d like to count for our visitors and marked the 1st birthday of the Canvas Café. We even hosted a wedding! With it being a new year, we thought it would be a perfect time to reflect so here is a run-down of our favourite Country Bumpkin Yurts and Canvas Café highlights from 2019…

Hen Party Fun

We love having hen party groups staying at Country Bumpkin Yurts! You may ask why, when so many other glamping sites don’t allow them, but the answer is simple… They have such a great time together and we get a real kick from seeing people enjoy themselves at our glamping site. We feel a sense of pride in enabling a group to celebrate life and friendship. In 2019, we expanded our links with other local small businesses so that we could help groups access more workshops and activities on site. The top 3 were Yoga with Sue, chocolate making and tasting with Explore Chocolate, and wreath making with Ginger’s Flowers.

A Wonderful Wedding

Glamping Wedding Venue

From hen parties to an actual wedding party. In August 2019, Country Bumpkin Yurts and the Canvas Café were the chosen venue for a hand-fasting ceremony and wedding party. To say we were honoured to host this is an understatement. It was the highlight of the year for both Lara and I!

It was a relaxed, boho-chic style event which worked so well with the yurts and marquee. The wonderful coGlamping Wedding Venueuple had around 80 guests who all came in their glad rags and wellies, even the dogs wore garlands in their hair (or should I say fur?). After the main meal in the Canvas Café, guests returned to the yurts to sing songs around the campfire, where we later delivered pulled pork rolls to keep them going into the night. As the first, of hopefully many, weddings, it was a corker!

Families

When the yurts weren’t full of happy hens, we introduced lovely families to their yurt glamping adventures. For many, it was a way of easing the family into camping without the hard work that would normally come with bringing your own tent and sleeping on the floor. Children were able to run around and play with sticks (we saw the best log village ever built by a group of children) and the parents were able to relax in the hot tub and sleep in a proper bed at night. The question now is whether they will ever go the whole hog and try camping in the future…

Canvas Café’s 1st Birthday

Canvas Cafe BirthdayOctober 2019 marked 12 months of the Canvas Café. We couldn’t believe how fast the first year went. It was a year of baking, boiling, roasting, and coffee pouring. Our homemade food has gone down a treat and we have connected with so many new people. For us, the café is so much more than just serving food and drink; it is about building a community and creating a hub where people learn and meet together to celebrate.

Birthdays all-round

Birthday parties were a theme for 2019 – in both the yurts and the café. We hosted regular birthday parties in the Canvas Café, from evening dinner parties for adults to afternoon tea parties for children. The farm setting and the bright space lend themselves especially well to private hire for children’s parties. We have found that a 2 pm-4 pm on Sunday afternoon is the magical slot for a little party. They were so much fun to do!

Those were just a few of the 2019 yurt glamping and café highlights, you’d be reading forever if I carried on. There were challenges too – I’d be writing for another decade if I described those as well so I will spare you for now. Lara and I enjoyed some time off over Christmas and are looking forward to what 2020 has in store for us. If you’re interested in having a yurt glamping hen do, wedding, or party with us in the Canvas Café this year, we’d love to hear from you. Send an email to info@countrybumpkinyurts.co.uk to share ideas and get the ball rolling.

Happy New Year! We wish you an adventure-filled 2020.

Jen and Lara xx
